The bitchiest and shameful post award

I have changed, really changed. Everyone around me had changed too, no matter small or big. I realized that just within one month, a sense of competition built up in me agaisnt some one. I am no longer the Victor that is willing to help out in every oppurtunity that I could. I am no longer the Victor that is generous and willing to teach every one everything I know. I had changed.

Drastic Change.

I am even afraid of myself now. Reflecting back at what I my feeling was just now, really scare me, I do not want some one to learn my photoshop techniques, because I love having this advantage. Scary. The selfish side of me is being displayed in myself. I am ashamed of it.

I remembered Taiboon talking about council politics. Is it true, is it the thing that is stirring within me? I hope not, and i think not.

I am angry. An angry person.

Although I am ashamed at my feelings just now. I must say something that I am not ashamed of.

That is. I am a person with a fairly big ego. I am egoistic. So what?

Matthew Lim, my committee member. He produced sub-standard logos, and he claimed that it was me who ruined it. Come on matthew, my new logos are done WITHOUT sketch, if it could do better than YOUR logos. What does it show? I mean. The fault did not really rely on me alone. You said you are going to ask jerrold to color ur logo for you, hey what is the meaning of this ? What the hell. I was joking about me being biase. I put EQUAl, I repeat EQUAL effort into digitising YOUR SO-CALLED WELL DONE SKETCH. Argh.

He said that my skills is only 1/3 of Jerrolds flash skill. What the fuck have you got any idea where my photoshop skills stand. Who the fuck are you to tell me that My photoshop skills are 1/3 of Jerrolds, come on. You are not me, I am myself, My skills are not thatBAD. Listen here, MAtthew, I am very displeased with all your comments, and your inability to come out with good logos. I am unhappy. Infuriated. Angry.

But I am an impartial person, I will not take it on you too hardly, I will still do your logo. I go for quality NOT quantity.

Argh.

Thats just like calling out "Hey crazyhamster! its your time to get out of your hibernation after round two!"

Whats more, they are dangling a product that I can never resist, and the same time, never afford. We must not confuse what we need and what we want. An ipod is certainly what most of the teenagers wants, but at the same time, it is an item that NONE of the teenager's need. So thats precisely why my mother refuse to get me one of the DAP for my last birthday. It was indeed disappointing, but nonetheless, perhaps I could attempt to win one. A method that will not touch a cent that my mom earns! That is what you call win-win!

I must say it is hard to go for this competition the third time, as it will be the third time you are baring your souls to the world wide web. As human nature goes, they demand more and fresher things as the experience adds on. Writing a THIRD entry for this competition is indeed pressing me down a little, but anyhow, I thought of the method I could employ writing this particular entry.

The first entry was crap? It was mainly just an entry for the competition, and thats that. The second entry was more of showing the "sensible" side of me, a view even my friends did not know of. How exactly could I make this post a novel entry that my fellow bloggers will feel the urge to vote for me?

I shall reveal some of my darkest secrets here. No, I am not a gay. I am a creative youth in Singapore!

Across my 4 years of Secondary school, I am in the Arts Elective programme of Hwa Chong Institution, from then on I am sucked into the realms of media art (this particular week's theme!) I had made several animations, however I must say none of them are really presentable. Nonetheless, I shall present to you an animation that I did in the past month, using only 1 night, with another partner. It was a project meant for ACS(i) Life science symposium, It was the top Entry. In another words, this animation earned us 5 trophies, and 600 kinokuniya Vouchers.

Interesting? but certainly not the best that the AEP could produce.

At the same time, i was also in charge of making some nice photo montage meant for mass viewing. I shall show you one of which that is closest to my heart, and perhaps to the other 400 other "pro-edians" in my school. It is the proed song.

Self-Determination Test

Hey all! I blogged sometime ago about a 30-day trial period to change our habits, courtesy of steve pavlina. However after experiencing the 30 days, I found myself giving up at the 5th or 6th day. But here I am, back to try out the scheme. However I adjusted the scheme a bit to help me kick my biggest habit.

Habit to be kicked: Procrastination
Time to follow the scheme: 15 days.

This means that after 15 days, I can choose to go back to my old ways and whatever not, but in the 15 days, I have to keep to my plans and goals.

Ok, so what will I do? Other than updating you guys almost everyday on this blog, I will plan out a timetable and a to-do list for my everyday tasks. For example for the YOUTH day...

I plan to:
1. Complete my chinese file and assessment book.
2. Chemistry worksheet
3. Binomial theory.
4. Math Worksheet

All this by 11pm tonight. The time is 9.30AM.
Look out for updates people. I shall be the lab rat to test the 15 day self determination test.

'Cher! why are you a teacher arh!

I remember when I was young. Like really young, around 7 years old, till the end of my primary school education. I was really afraid of my teacher. Since I was still young, I was really scared of incurring the wrath of my teachers. Though most of the times I was always the teachers favourite, since I topped the class regularly. Perhaps this add to the stress in me that I MUST complete all homeworks on time, my uniform must be neat, my hair need to be trimmed, I need to be the best in everything. Teachers are the ultimate.

All these stress comes from the teacher I had, however it does yield good results isn't it?

Come Secondary School, I started to came round to the fact that teachers are human too. The stress reduces greatly, however my marks reduces greatly too. But I would say that it is a fair exchange as I felt a lot happier compared to the "me" in primary school.

But I digressed. The main point of today's post is talking about the purpose of teachers being teachers in Singapore.

Teachers are noble profession in our current society. I have 3 such cousins who are noble. Which means they are teachers la! I do not meant to criticise them or anything, but I am quite surprised that the 3 cousins that tooked up this professions actually took up this profession. I heard that one of them actually got so mad at her students that she cried and broke down in her own class.

Not about my cousins, but I heard someone telling me that they have no choice but to be a teacher. Why? because it is a profession that never have to fear that they will lose their rice-bowl during any economic downturn. And most importantly, they need a job desperately, to pay back their loans that they took up in their university years. Being a teacher meant that in your first year of service that you spent in the NIE- National Institute of Education, you still get your pay. Only after your training, then you would be allocated to a school and teach there.

Many take this opportunity as a way of cruising past their "paying back" of loans, while many felt that this job was the job that could provide a steady source of income for them. But the big question remains- how many of the teachers that we have, teach because they WANT to teach.

Of course, some may claim that this is one of their reason for joining this workforce, but how many take it as the main motivation.

Is it even of importance? Indeed it is. When a teacher has the passion to teach, he or she will teach to his best and the results that the students produce will be one of the best too. I remember a talkshow on channel U that asked a similar intriguing question about a teacher's passion when they teach, and the result? Many said that they had the passion, the drive but is discouraged by the students.

Something is really wrong here isn't it? Teachers are supposed to be our motivating point and yet they can be discouraged by our bad results, if thats the case, how will the teachers improve?

I understand the plight of many young teachers, I also understand that all human will feel discouraged ( take my cousin for example). But since that is the case, if you cannot handle such things, then why be a teacher? Just because it is an Iron rice bowl? This is about a cohort of student's future we are talking about!

Sometimes I really wonder are teachers still a noble profession as compared to before?

Term 3 of every year. Often coined as the most vigorous term of all school year. It is a term where teachers will preach at least 5 times a week that we need to study hard because End of years is here. It is the term students get stressed out and collapsed.

It is also the term where people starts to tone down their co-curricular activity.

In another words, in 30 minutes, the term of mugging will commence.

In preparation for that. Crazyhamster got a haircut to avoid getting into some "friendly" debate with the Discipline master.

Come on people, don't start off the term with a "sian, tml sch reopen le"

We live life without regrets, since June Holidays are over, lets stop mourning about the stuff that we never accomplished.

The dream of the dream

Any one of you experienced lucid dreaming? For one, I am a guy who experience it very often.

What is lucid dreaming? It is when you dream, you know you are dreaming. This is different from normal dreams where you dream but remember the dream. You have to be aware of yourself dreaming when you are in your lala-land.

Somehow, I do not know how, when I have a nightmare, I will tell myself to calm down and realise hey! ITS A DREAM let me wake up. And I forcibly woke up. It was not easy to even open my eyes at that point of time.

However recently, I seems to be experiencing the reverse, I was having some good dream. I knew I was dreaming, so I didnt want to wake up, I woke up I closed my eyes in the hope of getting into the same dream yet again.

Most recently, I dreamt of my dream girl. We were so happily together. The first time I dreamt of her was last year. I dreamt that we went to kfc and watched spiderman 3. I know its dumb, but I tried to sleep even more after the dream. But alas, she never appear until now.

That aside, having lucid dreams adds substance to your sleep and I am not kidding. Imagine you are in a scenario and you know whatever that happens will not really affect the reality. I tried being a maniac in my dreams. Doing things that I will never dare to do in the real world.

Want to try lucid dreaming, just look out for anything absurd. And you know that is a dream!

Why we cant dye our hair har!

Ever had anytime that you were in any trouble with the discipline master/mistress/teacher for any of the "rules" you violated?

If any of you were to "talk back" and asked for the reason behind the rules, for example, the rules and regulation for our haircut. "Boys cannot have long hair, no dyed hair, blah blah... the list goes on."

And if we asked "why?"

We would probably get this look from them.

And in the end you will probably get some really vague answers like "Rules are rules! No Arguments"

In your mind, you will be thinking furiously, I asked you WHY is there such a rule, you tell me there is such a rule...

Its just like you asked me why I played computer games and I tell you COMPUTER GAMES ARE COMPUTER GAMES! NO Argument!

You need to give better reasonings to win the teenagers over, pal. By stating that they are rules again and again is not one of the reasoning.

As a student myself, I never once really got into deep shit with my discipline master. I remembered the only trouble I had with my discipline master was when I was in Secondary one when I threw a chair and broke a light. Hey guys, its nothing, its just a light. Whats' more, after I broke it, I went to the admin office and confessed my "sins". I was told that I will receive an invoice regarding the light bulb, but either the discipline master was scaring me, or the invoice sure took long to arrive. Im still waiting for it after 3 years.

Back to the topic, I was researching for the common rules set in Singapore Secondary schools for me to do this particular entry. I was rather amused when I saw the various cases that happened in Singapore with students getting into absurd rules and regulation.

Really recently, there was this Eurasian who kept getting into trouble because of her "dyed" hair. We all know that it was due to the eurasian genes in her causing her hair not to be black. Her teachers apparently do not think so. Absurd isn't it?

I told you its my genes, im just a motherf*cking princess!

Other than those exceptional cases (Avril's one is fictional la -.-), I can understand why school place their rules and regulation in place. For example, why aren't we allowed to dye our hair. The answer is simple (its not because they are rules), it is because it will be a distraction to many in the school.

The subject at hand today is Secondary school, what happens during secondary school? Puberty, raging hormones. If colored hair and make up are approved in Secondary school. Girls and guys alike, they will be more interested in their friends than their works. I am sure that is NOT a conducive place for our students to study.

Every Boys' heaven.

Signs of flirtation is the main reason behind such rules. That is why we arent allowed to dye our hair people! At the same time.

So stop giving us lame excuses and lame reasons on why we cannot dye our hair. Students need better reasons now to be convinced. Maybe sex education will help.

Or since we have to reach 6.5million citizens 10 years down the road, maybe we could allow dyeing of hair. Increase birthrates mah!

Hey all,

The past few weeks I was not too busy. I was not studying. I was not doing my animation. I was not doing my homework.

AND I DIDNT BLOG!

Why why why! So what was I doing!

Slacking. Simple as that. At the same time, I took a little break from all the blogging and earning money online thing. And guess what...

My readership fell. It is all expected.

Nevertheless, I took the oppurtunity to think about my blog, the design and all. It is really hurtful when every other person said that my blog is messy, looks like an adware site. Hey all human have feelings!

So I was bloghopping whenever I am free to look around for some inspiration.

In a moment of folly, I reformatted my com -.- . All in a desperate attempt to install Windows Vista Ultimate (which I eventually uninstalled), for a Game called Granada Espada(which I quit in less than a week).

I found back my photoshop CS, but right now I have a better option. CS3 Extended (BIG GRIN). It is universal, laymen terms: it will run faster on my mac.

This is made with ComicLife, not photoshop.

The simplistic logo now lies happily on my dock, along with Dreamweaver, Flash, InDesign, Illustrator CS3. Now I am equipped with better tools to blog better!

Remember youth.sg?

I still remember the sweet ol' ipod I have gotten from that nice little blogging competition. Hold on people. My competition was over, and there is this grand finals round which I didnt participate. I wouldnt say out loud that, "I totally didnt want to participate at all". The tingling feeling of temptation did move me somewhat. However, due to the ever procrastinating nature of mine, I missed the deadline, not once, but twice.

Now that its all over, MrOTAKU had won the competition. (I am really disappointed about him selling the macbook, alas im such a mac freak, so it does not really matters.

People commented on some of the contestants and this is one part of the war.

The other part is between soupcanfairy and mrotaku.

Somehow this two flame wars had slowly merged and formed into two camps whereby issac and soupcanfairy stand together while priss and otaku hug each other.

Ahh. Now things are just starting to get interesting as more and more bloggers started to join each camp. This flame war will just intensify, but looks like Mrotaku is losing his support as he recklessly flamed soupcanfairy in his latest entry.

Not to say that his entry was bad, but it was rather insulting to an individual. Crazyhamster is just peering at the two bloggers right now.

Personally, crazyhamster root for soupcanfairy, not just because she is a girl, BUT Mrotaku is selling his macbook. HRMPH!

Absolutely not. Crazyhamster is right now busy with sixer training camp in pei chun, spending quality time with primary 5s and 6s cub scouts to impart the ever valuable scouting skills to them.

Other than that, crazyhamster is sick and have no inspiration to write any articles, but he will be back.

Survival, survival and still survival

I was worned out this weekend, give me 24 hours sleep and I will still not be able to recover from my lethargic self. Perhaps, it is the effect of the holidays, or maybe it is because I went for survival in Punggol from friday to saturday, after which i had to go for lion dance for one of the VIP coming to Hwachong for APMOPS.

Survival at punggol this time round was fun and fruitful! For the uninformed, I am in Venture Scouts, so we are supposed to "survive" in a forest for one night, having to maintain a 12 hour fire, building a shelter out of the leaves, branches and other natural materials that we can find in the forest.

When we arrived at punggol jetty, the place where peolpe leaves for OBS, we walked into track 24. The previous week that I spent there was freaky, now I just wanted to get done with it and move on. Guess what, we saw cars with people inside, we concur that they were having sex or someting when we discovered condoms on the floor. A mobile sex hotal parking area: Punggol Jetty.

We finially got to a clearing and we managed to carry out certain tasks there, and we passed it.

By the next morning, we were covered with mud, soot and bitten by sandflies. For a while, we were like delinquents who left the house for a month.

THe bunc of us must have stinked out many commuters that morning, I am really sorry but we forgot to bring out cloths along with us and we had no choice

Elitism in Singapore

I read last saturday's articles regarding the issue of elitism in Singapore.

I am extremely concerned over the issue as I come from one of the "elite schools" mentioned by straits time. They mentioned that many people felt that the elites are those who excel in academic area. Wow. I never knew I was an elite since primary 1 when I topped my class, and primary 4 when I topped my cohort. Being young as I was, I never really did despise duller or slower peers.

From a personal experience, a first hand account I can offer you my utmost honest opinion after entering an elite school. The values taught was no doubt one of the best and complete. We are taught the J-TIGER

J - Joy

T- Teamwork

I - Integrity

G- Global Perspective

E- Empathy

R - Resilence

Now, now, stop yelling that there is no HUMBILITY in the values, we still have other school values, mission and all that will include our EQ which pretty much have humbility encompassed it in.

In my primary school, though I was always in the tops, I never felt that anyone was beneath me. However after 2 years of studying in my high school, i had always felt that I was better than any of the neighbourhood school students out in Singapore. I felt that I had more chances and oppurtunity and my experience would certainly be far better than theirs. That was probably until Secondary 3 which many of my peers had the same sentiments.

Is that an act of elitism? More like a thought of elitism. That was in my lower secondary. My mindset slowly matured over the years and in Secondary three, I felt more towards normal students. I came to an understanding that neighbourhood students can have their good "apples" in it as well. However, after the emotional struggle in the first two years I had also experienced the mindset of elites in Singapore

Note, I am not only studying in one of the top school of Singapore, I am not an elite who lives in mansions and have maids serving me daily.

First off let me start off with the mindset of a student in the Elite school.
He is being fed with information and propaganda that he is given a world-class education. He is under the impression that he is in the best school in singapore (which is true la duh.)

So naturally, he will think : hey, I am one of the best among others of my age, why should I bother with the delinquents with neighbourhood schools? It is their fault that they did not study hard in the first place. Thus as time goes by, the student would slowly stop mixing around with other students. This will only lead to a deeper misunderstanding if any conflicts happen.

Now, let me move on to the mindset of a regular student in a normal neighbourhood school.
He is under the impression that he is beneath the elite students by leaps and bounds. He feels that all elite students are rich ass who are able to study in luxury and comfort. He envies them, and the envy slowly morph into jealousy. He feels that the elites are threatening with their strong command of english language, he felt compelled as he is not capable of producing the same academic result.

However both student had missed out the fact that academic is only part of their life. A student in a neighbourhood school may not perform as well as one of an elite school, but he may be strong in other areas, for example, in arts and sports. Even if it seems that the student had no strength at the moment, he should not despair as he had not find his strength just yet. Everyone comes to earth for a reason.

Thus who's fault is it that cultivate such a culture in our students nowadays? You decide.

I love my IPOD. And I know you love yours too. My ipod was a gift from youth.sg after winning one of its blogging competition, from then on I had been enjoying countless musics and videos.

This iPod DVD converteris actually developed by pqdvd. after launching the video converter software, click "open" button to select a dvd or video file. Now you can start recording the video into iPod format. When it is ready, you may put the converted file into iTune library and sync with your iPod. Yes, it is that easy!

Do try it out. I may purchase it when I earned enough money!

I had been really busy these few days. Just managed to come back from a night of Survival this friday, I went to do service at the kindness week at Ang Mo Kio, it drained me totally of my energy to even switch on my computer.

However, I am back, and I am here to show you one of the things that I will be busy with other than blogging.

For this year, being an AEP Student, I have to complete a project all by myself this year. I chose Animation and I had been working from january since.

I am about to explode people. because of my one test and one exam this week. If not for the two darn things, i would have been better off installing windows on my mac and join my friends in a game of GE. Though that is not certain but there is a hell lot of things that I want to do during the holidays.

1. I want to FINISH my animating part of my animation. Finishing the post production part seems a bit too naive.

Back from Secondary 4 Camp 2007

5 days. The first day being my birthday. What a memorable camp.
I think the most memorable part of the camp lies in the excruciating pain and agony in not blogging. I am officially certified blog-addicted. However, as the days past, I slowly forget about my readership numbers and so on, and go into my deep slumber. wait. Slumber? ITS A CAMP!

More like a fun yet slack camp. One of the best combination ever. If they managed to pack the activities together and be on a tighter schedule, this 5 days camp can easily become a 3 days camp. Not that I am complaining. The only disadvantage lies in me not able to touch my lovely "wife" for 5 entire days. And here i am, blogging with a slight dizzy head. Probably I havent touch my computer for too long a time!

I think more than half the time is wasted on travelling, which I travelled from pahang to perak in IPOH. It was by train at first, then we switched to coaches. We slept in caves, hotels, motels and MOST OF THE TIME, on the BUS!

It was a hell of time carrying out the 5 main activities - Abseiling, Rock climbing(real rocks, mind you), Canyoning, Caving and rapid water rafting.

They are supposed to be high risked activites, but I DO trust all of the instructors in ensuring my safety. I had injuries on my hands from the sharp stones of rock climbing, experienced the abseiling down the water fall, smelt the smelly bat rats in caving, and finally experienced the thrills of rapid water rafting with our teacher.

I thought over what Alf mentioned about the healthy relationship between teachers and students. I believe it is these camps and the candidness of our teachers that allows us to treat our teacher as friends. Schools have much to learn from Hwachong in this aspect.

I was at the lan shop, giving me a nice surprise was my friend's entry. To wish me a happy birthday, she took A LOT OF effort to find that cake. I am glad that my blog readers responded to her entry.

It had been a tiring week, I will continue to work hard for my blog, my studies and all. Its back to reality again people.

"With great power of blogging comes great responsiblity"

The famous quote that every other man of the earth knows. But seemingly, the students and teenagers of the current era of Singapore seems blatantly unaware of the logic. To them, the internet is a vast ground of free expression, with no boundaries, with no restriction. I believe most of them (if they do read newspaper) realised that their dreams were dashed entirely. The internet is not so free after all, if you are daring and post about a girl who just died, you get bashed because of ur insensitivity. Pardon me for not elaborating because I do not want to dwell too much into one particular issue.

The world had changed, society evolves. When I was in primary 5, my best game was monopoly. Now, I see primary 5 and 6 bloggers. Not that we should marginalise them, but how much have they learnt to restrain their words appropriately. If you have an internet and a computer ( a pentium 3 will do the job), all you have to do is to create a blog and tadah, you can FLAME anyone you like.

No longer is the era where you simply whisper to your bestfriend and say"hey, you know YY did this to me? I am no longer his friend, dun friend him k? or else I dont friend you."

It is the era whereby students go right to their blog and start their campaign against the poor innocent soul. Hold on for a second, maybe the poor innocent sould is not that innocent after all, perhaps he will set up a blog(or use his pre-existing one) and flame the other guy back. Both providing a very biased, one sided view. Those post was meant to aggravate, to stir emotions in our friends and win people over.

Welcome to the world of cyber-bullying.

Personally, I believe that the higher the blog traffic is, the more influential the blogger turns out to be. Take for example, mr brown, (I do not want to have too many xiaxue example), his podcasts had always been a great hit among the locals. If for one day, he decided to go against the government with his persuassive podcasts, how many followers will he yield? 100? 1000?

Same goes for cyber bullying in our student blogs. When your blog is relatively famous in your school, by giving a one-sided article on your blog, you can rally a few supporters.

This is not healthy at all. Cyber bullying will be a pertinent trouble, I hope it will not take a turn for its worst and all students arent allowed to blog. I will be the first to cry.

1. Branding
Branding is very important if you are going to set up a highly successful blog. Even with students, we need to come up with original, unique moniker. I am not saying that you cannot use your own name as your brand, but will you remember “Wu Hsien Xing”(no offence to who ever this is) or “Playdough” better? Obviously the latter will leave a deeper impact on the readers. Having a powerful brand to your blog, you can ensure that people will never forget your URL, and they can keep coming back!

2. Be your true self
Honesty is the best policy. I had always believed in it. If you choose to express yourself as an arrogant little brat in your blog, you better be one in real life. I do not mean to say that your blog shapes your life, but your life shapes your blog. If you blog with accordance to your character, your unique style of blogging will slowly emerge out. Futhermore, it is easier to blog like an asshole when you are one.

3. Provide controversial insights
Quoted from someone from stomp, controversy attracts cash. I believe that for every well-known blog, there must be a point whereby there are a few controversial posts that will draw a heated online debate. However what I meant by controversial insights doesn’t mean unreasonable arguments, though that may draw some attention initially, but will instead draw dissentment from the public, and I am sure that you do not want everyone to hate you. (or you do?) Controversial insights have to be backed up with evidence, or being phrased in such a neutral manner that is just enough to attract some detractors and proponent. You can refer to my tomorrow-ed posts, especially the one on CIP. Not the best around, but it helped me gain some exposure for my blog.

Remember I mentioned in my recent post that people are now looking for what they can bring away from your blog, and your “bitchiness” will never draw more attention. So in your blog, you should learn to start giving. By giving, you can design blogs like the ICE ANGEL, who is extremely successful initially due to her great ability to create and design blog skins. She is contributing to the blogosphere and everyone loves her for that. For me, I am giving away FREE JOOST INVITES for a limited time. I will be giving away some other freebie next time too. Writing this article is giving too, I am giving you a guide to student blogging.

5. Join the social
No, I am not asking you to buy a zone and “join a social” this is merely to ask you to start going into forums and leaving your footprint there. Make sure that you can give your comments there and not just for the sake of promoting your blog and risk being labeled as a “SPAM”

6. Join blogging competitions / carnivals
If you think traffic will just come in naturally, you are very very wrong. Traffic will only come in when people starts to link you. It is not very ethical to go to everyone’s blog and beg for links. For student bloggers, we can join blogging competitions and carnivals set up by other bloggers. IN this way, some of the former blog’s reader have a chance to be converted into YOUR readers.

7. LINK ME for joost, and watch your traffic multiply
If you link me, I will give you a joost invite. You can use that to attract more blogders (like what I am doing), after which I can give you a link, those who comes to my blog will see the link, they will click on it, they will go to your blog. AND MORE EXPOSURE.

HELP! The reason why students blog will never go big the XIAXUE way.

In case u are unaware, our queen blogger (according to lianhe wanbao) had once again hit the headlines of the gossipy lianhe wanbao. I guess the limit of the traffic of her blog is the sky.

However, as students, can we suceed the way XIAXUE does? The answer is a definite NO.

In Singapore, seriously we just need one xiaxue. Thats more than enough for all of us. So what is a "xiaxue"? One pretty person who shares her life and thats that. A personal blog growing to such a scale has high odds.

You may quote me dawn yang. What propelled Dawnyang to her fame today is her "beauty", while for xiaxue , her straight blatant controversial style of blogging. Different, very different.

Did you notice something that is common within the two of them? YES THEY ARE NOT STUDENTS OF ANY SORTS!

The reasons below help me reillustrate my point more clearly.

1. Student bloggers are binded to a certain institution, we should be wary of what we are blogging about. We are a representative of the institution and we should uphold its reputation.
This is one the most basic duty of all student bloggers. Call me a sucker for the authorities ass, but I consider that as a basic respect of every student bloggers. It is true that our blog belongs to us, but the blog is on the public domain, subjected to the public's criticism.

2. Student bloggers can NEVER be as flirtatious as XiaXue or Dawnyang.
The student bloggers I am refering to here are those under the age of 18. Due to the immature look and amateur make up on most of the girl student bloggers, many will just label them as "ah lians" and snot off without a second look. Definitely, that is not the desired effect. Oh if you are a guy, if you put on make up, maybe you can be the next BIG WOO-HA IN THE BLOGOSPHERE!

4. Student bloggers will NEVER get the chance to go to malaysia alone and scold the f-word.
Puhlease, you will be peeing in your pants.

5. The web had moved on, bitchiness gets you nowhere now.
So where is Xiaxue. Nowhereland. If you want to join her, dream on. Since the emergence of xiaxue, the bitchiness in the web had caused fatigue in many users, thus it is currently web2.0, people are more concerned about what they can take away from your blog.

So WHAT SHOULD YOU DO FOR YOUR BLOG TO BE FAMOUS!

This labour Day reminds me of last years.

For some reason, labour day had became a special day for Ventures 07. It is one of the days which we attempted to build a structure by our own ability ~~and failed terribly~~

I still have some of the picture, and even on hilarious video on this particular day last year. This year, our junior decide to give their hand a rest during labour day, thus We just have to find out how are they going to build the structure this friday.

I vaguely remember the reason wwhy we decided to build the structure on labour day was because we were not prepared mentally for the real thing a few days after.

The structure is meant for open house 2006. SO similarly, my juniors are doing the structure for this year

GAH! I had just slapped myself hard on the mouth for this week. In my recent entry, I claimed that I will update the blog at least once in every 3 days. What happened?

But these 3 days had been crazy too me, with tests piling and my scouts' cheif commisioner award exploration preliminary test report due tomorrow! I had less than 3 hours of sleep last night.

Thus, I will definitely write more after this crazy period of exams. It is worth it though, my results for my exams had been rather good, definitely not the best but at least in the As... I love studying, especially when I get back the result.

However, I didnt neglect my aesthetic development either! look, im getting prepared to enter in stomp's poster design competition. To bring out the emotion in the characters, I am painting them digitally.

not too bad huh.

Its been around a week or more from the previous time I had posted about blogging for money. Thus this time round I am going to update a bit on whats going on around this student blog.

As you can see, my template changed from the orange colour skin to this current black one. I had succumbed o the darker force >.< But I am still attempting to make my blog look more web2.0.

When I told my friends about monetizing my blog, there was a glimmer in their eyes. However, when i mentioned that it is through adsense (the google advertisents), their glimmer disappear. Why? I asked. The most typical response given was " I do not really care about those advertisements.

Indeed, its really disappointing if your main blog readers are from Singapore. Most of us here do not give a damn about the advertisement displayed in most sites. This is due to the cyncial mindset of many Singaporean nowadays.

"If the person have the money to advertise, that means that website needs money, and if that website needs money, why should i go to that site?"

That is probably through for some of the cases, however I had seen NE-mation, the national education animation competition being broadcasted over adsense. That does not require money to vote.

Thus I have to break the myths of adsense in other to promote the usage of web-advertisements in Singapore. This will aid the publishers in getting more clicks and the advertisers in getting more attention. Futhermore, those who clicked will not be at a disadvantage.

1. All sites on the advertisements are scam.
- Totally totally untrue. Advertisements on adsense are being bought with money by real people. Definitely not computer generated to scam a few cents.

2. I will need to pay once I enter the sites through the advertisements
- Yea, pay with ur pixels? RUBBISH

3. The sites are irrelavant and are probably based in the Europe.
- Probably. I will not say this is totally untrue... but there are advertisers in asia too!

4.If the person have the money to advertise, that means that website needs money, and if that website needs money, why should i go to that site?
- Not true. Many sites are promoting through advertisements to merely draw attention. They may need money but not always from you directly.

5. You will get lots of money if I click on it.
Seriously, if singaporeans click on the advertisement, I will earn around 0.01-0.02 cents. A lot? definitely not, I had visitors from the west and one click can earn me up to 55 cents.

So why the cynical mindset? Perhaps when you have nothing to do, it is time to do some ad-surfing.

Once in awhile, crazyhamster will go uber emo and starts to rant about his workload. It is until today that I realised that I am already in a very good situation. I totally empathise with the other student bloggers of my age. I wonder if they still blog on a regular basis like I do. I am sure that most of them still does that.

One of the professional blogger once mentioned that in a blog, there are 4 season. I believe right now, in crazyhamster I am in teh winter mode. The winter season is a time that I will hardly write any critical arguments and articles due to the immense workload given by our DEAREST TEACHERS. However, this blog will still be updated regularly, mostly about personal life and experiences. Who knows, I may even post up some "mugging" tips for my readers to enjoy.

I had always wondered whats so great about "mugging", the "IN" section of our school subscription version of the Straits Time glorified the students who mugged or study really hard during the Os or any other exams. They call it EXTREME mugging. Yea, it is to draw parallels with the "extreme sport" cateogry which meant that the students are seriously hardcore who does not give a damn about their studies.

So whats the weird thing over here? none of those featured made it into the top junior college - Hwa Chong Institution. Granted, now that RJC had surpassed us in terms of performance for the latest A level exam, we were the best for last year. Or rather the most difficult to get into. Those featured are those who took their Os in the past, so if that was the case why is it that they are unable to make it to the top notch school? Call it choice, I call it luck.

Luck plays an extremely important role in every examination or tests. If you are lucky, you can study really little and still score because you are studied the areas which are coincidentally tested. So how much of such luck do you have? HOW MUCH?
NOT MUCH!

So in the end, we still have to study to increase our "luck", the more we study, the more area we cover.

It is just like 4D isnt it? The more we study, the more numbers we place our bets on and the probability of winning the first price is much higher. Oh what about toto? Who knows we may just win the "first prize"?

They all said, we want to buy a hope! Thats why compulsive gamblers are keen to buy many many hopes. What about studying? We want hopes too! So mug more topic, to have more hope!

This is to my fellow student bloggers who may be facing with the greatest stress that you may feel in your entire "less than 20" years. Study hard, study smart.

Are you sure? In the first place, pr0n arent very safe if people want to investigate. that is probably why it is as safe, or as dangerous in that sense.

Many people had the misconception that blogs are online diary. Yes, they can be be online journals, but never online diarys because diaries are private and maybe locked up with a small lock that we all adore.

This is also the reason why many student bloggers are getting charged or flamed recently due to their insensitive comments. The west is able to tolerate all the nonsense, but definitely not singapore! We take our security and sovereignty seriously, so serious that we are able to prosecute two teen bloggers who blogged about sensitive issues of racist comments.

To a certain extent, our blog belongs to us, however it is published on an international platform where anyone can access easily. Thus no matter what, we have to take responsiblity for what we wrote.

One guideline that crazyhamster wish to convey to all of you is : do not risk getting prosecuted just for the sake of controversial issues. Many a time, I felt strongly about an issue and I wanted to blog about it. Howeve, I am well aware of the consequences that it may bring me, thus I have to research on various sources before commenting on it. Yes, it may give me more traffic if I just rant it off. That will be my view, a view without any backing and substantial evidence, a view that could lead to slandering issue.

If we have evidence, by all means we can try to shoot someone down totally. They will have no grounds to fight back. Thus whenever we blog, we must always think of what various authorities will think about it.

Yes, satire social site had stretched the limit for more than once, however we must do it in a good nature. We cannot afford to ruin our future just because a moment of angst.

Yes your blog is as safe as your porn, and your porn is as safe as the rubbish bin down your house.

13th Student Leaders Convention

The Student Leaders Convention, often leaving more than 400 student leaders from the region to hold back their tears when it ends. The special bond between the participants could be seen from occasional meet ups of even the 9th Student Leaders Convention's participant. Beside the convention being an education conference, it serves as a platform for student leaders to express their views, engage in intriguing discussions.

Need less to say, I was part of the 12th Student Leaders Convention Organising Team. I was part of the logistics team and it had been a wonderful experience. Now that a year is almost over since that event came to a close, my junior had worked and slogged their guts out to organise the 13th Student Leaders Convention. The theme and concept is very different from the convention I once had a part in. Nonetheless, I hope that their spirit and dreams will prevail.

Oh did I mention that the number of girls to guys in the organising team is at least 2:1...

Before we start anything, we must be able to understand our market, competitors, partners, friends or whatever you call it. Thus, I spent sometime evaluating the blogosphere in singapore. Of course there are many other categories, but I felt that hese are the more prominent ones in Singapore.

This graph follows two criteria
1. It is a Singapore Blog
2. It is a student Blog

Thus the result is out. As expected, personal blogs is the dominant genre around the blogosphere, leading by a large margin.

How many is too many? (Student Bloggers Edition)

As pointed out by one of my reader, a successful blog should be one that updates on a regular basis. I agree totally on that. But we must understand the fact that being students, we have our commitments and stuff. Unlike the professional bloggers who commit fulltime to their blogging career, we can only hope for less homework and stuff.

That is one of our limitation, Student Bloggers need to manage our time more appropriately.

Do take note that my blog is not advocating you guys to drop your study and blog because you can always earn money through blogging. We must be aware that blogging should only be one of your focus, but studies always come first so that we have a back-up. As student bloggers, our duty is to study, but at the same time i do not believe that we cannot earn some extra money to buy some stuff that our parents refuse to buy.

So the ultimate question is back. How many is too many? 1 post a day? 2 post? Or 1 a week? once a month?

During the infancy period of a students blog (1week-3week), the passion or rather the adrenaline rush of blogging lingers there, however as work pile up, we tend to put a convenient "HIATUS" status on our blog. or worse, just abandon the blog and come back 3 months later and the cycle continues.

We must keep in mind that readers hate going to a site that doesnt updates itself. Personally, I will give up going to the blog which never updates for more than 2 week. Differently people have different expectations. Thus, make sure you set your own expectation.

While it is true that during the initial stage, we must post more in order to attract more loyal readers. However, we must be realistic. Many a time, I was tempted to post more than a post a week. However, I manage to curb that temptation because I will be setting an unrealistic expectation and a sense of inconsistency to my readers. The only reason why people blog more than 2 times a day is

1. They are too free
2. It is just a passing phase, it cannot hold on.

(notes: this only refers to student bloggers, not professional bloggers).

This will cause many people to take a step back and doubt the sincerity of the blog. I believe that some post can be saved for further used, so you do not need to spam your articles, it just does not work.

So you may ask, crazyhamster, you had not mention how many times should I post...

Personally, I will give myself a 3 days grace period to have a blog post. It will be best to blog everyday, however, will that be realistic? You will have to look at your own commitments. Remember, it is a promise not only to your reader, but to your blog as well.

Since I started the campaign to encourage students to start earning money via blogs and stop working as hard as slaves in fast food restaurants, I had been blog surfing a few times to get some solid advice.

Other than the oh-so-famoust Problogger blog that had won international recognition with his 6-figure blogging, and shoemoney who is just as successful. I had been to DOSH DOSH for some really useful tips around.

Furthermore, I decided to venture more into our local, or rather area blogosphere to see if any other bloggers manage to earn their keep through blogging. To my greatest delight, i found a few rather encouraging web bloggers either from singapore, or from malaysia. Larry Lim can be considered a guru around this region if you put it that way, and I am exhilarated to find out that Earn money blogging had just received his first paycheck! OH MAN WHEN WILL IT BE MY TURN?!

Of course, it is truly encouraging to find a 13yearold running a popular site. he is from Carlocab. If a 13 years old can do it, what cant we students do? :D

Ah, just managed to escape the crutches of school. Well, It is never too late to return my promise of the second issue of my blog for money series.

Currently, I am monetizing my blog with only two features. As a budding blogger, I feel that this should be one of the two to start off. We do not want to scare our readers off with an influx of advertisements. Some may feel that it will take away the personal feel that our blog should have in the first place. Do my adverts take away my content? i do not think so, I think as long as it does not have popups/obstruct my readers from reading my blog, there is no harm is putting some advertisements in your blog!

1. Advertisements
There are various form of advertisements that you can employ. The most famous being google adsense.

This form of advertisement promises targetted ads on your site, thus if your site contains no porn, you do not have to worry about it showing advertisements for pornographic materials.

2. Affliates
Google adsense provides such service as well, we can refer people to their service. There are many other affliate programs around, like adultfriendsfinder. However, this being a teenagers blog, should be void of such mature contents.

3. Earn As You write
This is the second of means I am earning my keep for. When I write a post, I provide links to the site that will pay me for it. A post may be worth $5 to $25, depending on the popularity of your blog. The service that I engage is:

I had always heard of a famous quote : "You will never be out of job, the fast food industry is always hiring." I scorned at the statement, but reflect deeply to find out that most students of Singapore resolved to become waiters/waitress of fast food restaurants. I do not mean to despise the students for working hard during the holidays, instead I applaud them for their determination. Alas, the determination could had been better used elsewhere instead of earning the measly 3 dollars per hour.

Since the time that my family's income had went down into crisis, I picked up tuitoring as my part time job. However, the more I tutor, the more I felt sick of it. Of course, the ability to teach others is a gift, but sadly, I have no such gift. I am smarter than average, thus I am able to fetch around 8-10 dollars an hour for my tutoring service. However I am afraid at the same time that my student would underperform. I have to answer to someone. I just do not feel right. I am still a high school student, there is no way I should be under unnecessary stress, judging by the amount that is dealt happily by my dearest teachers.

I looked at my choice : no part time job(too busy), I cannot take too many tuition, I hate it anyway. Online money earning.

I looked at my last option as a student. By a student I meant that you are 12-22 years old, full time schooling, and maybe lacks a credit card. If you do not have credit card, you cannot trade online using ebay. It is pretty much restricted. That was my situation.

Thus, I decided to take the option that I have: BLOGGING FOR MONEY.

I have a blog popular enough, why not try to make some money out of it, at the same time provide the same content to them. It just seem natural to me.

Not that I have suceeded in making much money since, but at least till date I have earned $20+ USD, and all I did was to provide a platform for people to read my views.

I am still exploring ways and means to scrape some gold off the web, I am sure I can suceed but only with the help of you readers.

I will elaborate more on the mean that I am currently using tomorrow. Homework is piling up, tests are just tomorrow! Yes, that is a big big limit that we students must face. Follow this site closely if you want to earn money just like me! :)

Calling this post a full advertorial post is not really apt. I want to give my opinions on this issue at the same time bring out some website which we can go for reference. Thus I think it is half-advertorial, yes I do get money for this post.

I had been thinking over the past few days if it is possible to earn money by blogging. Of course, shoemoney and problogger had proved that it is possible to earn a 6 figure sum per month just by blogging. THey are the real professional bloggers, and to bring it closer to our heart, our dearest Xiaxue is also living off her blog. But the question remains, is it possible for us teenagers to blog and earn money? The idea isnt entirely not viable. As you can see I have advertisements on my blogs, BUT OBVIOUSLY it isnt raking in much income. To tell you the truth, I havent receive my first paycheck because my earnings havent reach 100 dollars. Pathetic isnt it? More than half a year. But I do not really care because my main objective for this blog was not really meant to rake in a 6 figure sum, it is to release some of my stress here. This blog was also meant for me to discuss social issues with my readers.

I even consdered getting a domain!. But of course this idea slowly moved to the back of my head as I was overwhelmed by the great amount of homework from school.

What is the difference between students and other bloggers? We lack the experience, and the time. We are unable to commit ourselves to blogging QUALITY posts everyday to feed the need of our readers. But more often than not, we are the one that is able to raise controversial topics mostly because of our critical mind that has yet to be exposed to the "politically-correct" world out there. This is one of the main thing that could draw people to our blogs. We are daring, but often the ones that will get into trouble. So I shall be the experiment from today onwards. I will be updating you guys on the profits I am reaping from this blog fortnightly, lets see if a SINGAPORE teenager can escape the fate of working at fast food restaurants in the holidays. Imagine if you tell your mum, " mum I can just blog, I do not need to work." Follow me to get a piece of the internet.

SgFriend's self-destruction

I seriously wonder who will destroy their own hardwork within a timespan of 2 weeks. Perhaps, in a moment of folly, or perhaps, in a drunken state, the webmaster of SGFRIEND decided to bomb up his own website. Hold on. Maybe that would be a better option now, for the website to go obselete. It is getting heavy bombing from bloggers who once tried to reach the top of their blogging ranking.

hey I am part of it too, but I never had the chance to put it up in my blog, and never had I been more glad that I did not place that dreadful picture into my blog.

Apparently, this website which had garnered a substantial amount of popularity and strong base from singapore's blogger, had recently decided that they should have more "reporters"

Somehow, this reporters just love the look of bloggers faces when they get "suan". Not only that, in a desperate, yes DESPERATE bid to create some wave in our blogosphere, it started to attack the biggies in the ranking. This means that the articles are aimed at those bloggers that are in the top 3 of their ranking. Perhaps it wasn't at all smart to incur the wrath of your biggest supporter. Irony, total irony.

Well, sgfriends did it, top bloggers are all talking about it. About boycotting it. Its ok, maybe we will have a sgpal next time set up by scooty kihoro derrick.

Back from Scouts Camp.

Troop camp 07 is ongoing as I type this entry. The reason why I came home is because I am a year 4 and is no longer required to go to troop camp as a scouts, instead I am a volunteer to help out wherever I could.

Though so, the 6 of us wh stayed overnight last night did not really help out much. We only helped in guiding those juniors in a confidence test. It was fun guiding them, and I have to admit that we were a bit sadistic to "play" them throughout the journey. But what really matters is everyone had fun.... ok at least we had fun. No hard feelings.

After that, we went to play street soccer at 11 pm, only to be chased out by the security guard. We were all super tired and shag, and we decided to go to the old scouts den to chill out. I realised how lousy our tv channels are, there is absolutely no nice shows on the tv on a friday night. We were reduced to watching some lousy "xanda" show. The show was only funny because we changed the subtitles of "fighting" into "f*cking".

I think we were really mad at that point of time, because we decided to go to 7-11 at 2 am to eat maggi mee. The cashier was an indian who attempted to speak "thank you" in chinese. It was really really comforting to see cashiers making such a nice effort.

Finally we decided to rest for the night/day . We thought this camp was not really that successful, on the account that the recruits actually had the mind and physical ability to do homework till 3 am, or wake up at 5 plus to have a game of chess. I was really surpirsed to see recruits playing chess seriously, its the first time I have seen scouts waking up early to play chess. ultimate.

I shant comment much on the new PLC's performance since we screwed up last year too. In the morning, we had a long footdrill session that zapped us all of our energy. i am still feeling tired though I slept for 5 hours. :|

Zapcode, a new technology or another commercial gimmick?

For those who had been following the newspaper for this two months may have noticed this thing called "zapcode" on pages of the newspaper.

When I first saw it, I was excited over this particular new technology and wanted to try it out, only to be dampened by the prospect of getting caught by my teachers, so I brushed the idea aside. As I was websurfing that day, I found "techchick" showing us how to use ZAPCODE. Interested to find out more, I decided to go to zapcode's website to read up on it.

However, to my dismay, the more I understand the usage of "zapcode" the more i find it familiar. Isnt it very similar to the same commercial gimmick of "mymall.sg" some time ago? Where did mymall went? into oblivious I guess. Not to label the site as a scam, I label mymall.sg as a website that makes us of our curiosity mind. When we watched the commercials on TV, our curiosity would naturally lead us to the website and type in the keyword gleefully. However, to my greatest disappointment, more often than not, it will lead us to a page of e-flyer. Very disappointing indeed, I must say we are cheated of our feelings. It was claimed on the commercial that fabulous offers await us! I see non of the offers.

Very similar to mymall's campaign, zapcode promises special offers if we manage to zap. However, we must keep in mind of the small prints. It is stated that we have to pay for the data transfer via GPRS. If I am not wrong, it can add up to a hefty amont. Over the website, it was shown that "zapcode" could be all over singapore, there may even be merchandises made for zap code! I must say, currently it is restricted to the newspaper medium.

So how does it work? You have do download an application, after which, usign your phone camera, you are able to take a picture of a picture code and decipher it. Sounds pretty cool... The content we download are subjected to GPRS charges.

Why will I label it as a commercial gimmick. Firstly, it is set up by the singapore news press holdings and it allows people to buy their unique zap codes. The fee is cheaper than a newspaper ad, but it is not very cheap either.
$ 100.00 for 7 days for a unique code which will be printed else where, ie not on on the mainstream newspaper. You will probably not get much exposure if you only buy the code. And if it is to be printed on the newspaper, the price is inflated up to 500 dollars. Not cheap at all.

Thus, if the buyers of such code had to pay such a high amount, what information will be passed down to us, the consumer? It will definitely be full of advertisements! This is to broadcast their own product, which is the very reason why they bought the code in the first place. I do not think SPH will make sure every advertiser to give great offers or freebies.

However, I believe this campaign may take off successfully at the start. The reason being it is mysterious. Mymall.sg was able to attract such hype even though we know what the advertisement is going to be about (the keyword is the company normally), thus the zapcode is just a picture with colours, it will certainly attract enough attention for people to try "zapping" so that they wont miss anything out.

Oh gosh. now the competition gets heat up! Just before teh grand finals! I am so so so lucky that I won the 5th round and no need to take part in the dreaded 6 round. Haha just joking. BUt when they decided to extend the top 11 to top 20, it means the votes should have doubled, meaning your effort of rallying should double, if not triple! So good luck people, and I voted. I will not tell you who I voted but... I root for these few people who managed to get into top 20!

THE... erm chili thingie girl! hahahahahaha anyway, she is really very smart. Though she does not want to win... but it is indeed a great entry that every contestant should look up to!

Bootlickers - love em or hate them?

Being in such a competitive society, I am pretty sure that there are bootlickers lurking just behind, beside, or even INFRONT OF YOU! These bootlickers draw jealousy from others, because our superior beings (boss, teachers etc) simply love to be bootlicked. We are always hoping that we will be able to expose their fake front and show the teachers they are all FAKE FAKE FAKE! But alas, the day of weeding every bootlicker out of our school is but a fantasy that can be dreamt by the minority. The reason being all of us will wish that we are the bootlickers, we all wish that we are part of the bandwagon that is favoured by the higher authorities. It just makes things much easier isnt it? When you did not do your homework, and you are in the good shoes of your teachers, what are the chances that they will send you out of the class?

We must acknowledge the fact that all teachers are humans too. Till the year when I finally graduate from my primary school, I had always seen my teachers as the "GOD" someone who is capable of not favouring anyone in the class, giving everyone a fair view every day it starts. However, it was only true to my eyes because my teacher favours me. Irony isnt it? I did not make a special effor at that point of time to "lick" my teachers ass. Ok that sounds a tad bit too crude, but I was just a student who was capable of producing wonderful results, so naturally teachers favour the students with good result.

Then, when I entered Secondary schools, my result plummeted, probably because I do not view result as the only thing in life. I took part in various organisation of the school. Surprisingly, in year 3, I am in the Executive Committee of the Consortium council, and the Chairman of our scouts group. At the same time, I am in the organising team for the 12th student leaders convention, which I must say is a position wished by many students of the school. My result are not bad, but not fantanstic either. I did not get raving reviews from the teachers as I seldom patronise the staff room. I believed that I managed to go so high up is due to the fact that i took the road less travelled. I often chose the road where I had lesser competition thus I will be able to shine in that field. It is an alternative to bootlicking.

Back to bootlicking. It is very rampant in my school, and I believe that it is too, in many other school. To what extent do students bootlick so that they will have a better impression in their "oh-so-mighty" teachers mind?

For an instance, one of our teacher told us that on the first day of school, a year 4 (my year) student went to her in the staff room and went...

"hi ms XX,"
My teacher stared, wondering who he was.
"how are you? ms XX"
My teachers stared and replied a yes.
*awkward silence*
"OH haha, nothing much, I am just getting to know my teachers on the first day of school"

Granted, that is one of the extreme examples in school. Perhaps due to my naive and innocent mind in year 1 and 2, i did not see those people as bootlickers, but as years goes by and I look back in the years I had been through, many students had tried hard to be in the teachers good books, to be a teacher pet. And some, are trying just too hard.

I am not here to advocate that we should all be a delinquent that is hated by the teachers, and I acknowledge the fact that high-achieving students tend to be likened by teachers, even though they may not want to have that attention.

However, it really piss me off when students make it their daily ritual to go to the staffroom, just so that the teachers can "see them" and have an impression of them.

And if you are not able to be in your teachers good shoes? There you go... another group of attention seeking students called the delinquents stepped in...

Gah... Founders' Day

Sometimes, I just love the School calender, it is just been the first week of school and we are given a day off. Although many of us still had to go back to school, it is great to have a day of break in the middle of the week, it allows us to take a breather and reflect upon the past two days. I do not mean to sound inspirational or anything here, but I just felt proud to be in a school full of rich history, thats probably why, our school is taking founders day on a serious note, so serious that it can be levelled with National Day!

My blogging carnival had been going great, receieved 5 entries so far! Though one of this carnival's purpose is to expose less well-known sites, I am really glad to receive entries from popular blogs! In a sense, I hope that this carnival had brought out some interesting read in our local blogosphere about their own internet moniker.

The post before school reopens

The day that all students dread slowly creeps nearer and nearer. Every word that I wrote will reduce the time I have left to the SCHOOL REOPEINING! People. yes, like it or not, the school is reopening for the next ten week before we can enjoy a month long of break.

So people asked, this holiday, what had you achieved? This term, have you abide closely by your new-years resolution. What about .... NO? Year 2007 is a year better than what I had imagined it to be. My result picked up, and I have since won 2 competitions. I do not detest losing, but I embrace the feeling of winning. Granted, some of the things that I hoped to achieve had been secretly "postponed" to the next few months ahead of us.

Throughout this holiday, i had managed to settle and drawn the storyline of my new animation project. This will be a big scale solo project done by crazyhamster. I managed to draw the storyboard, and completed parts of my puppet. At the same time, I have won the recent round of youth.sg blogging competition thanks to my friends, online and offline.

So through this week, have you rested well? Are you ready for a brand new term ahead? Don't worry, BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!

Blogging Carnival 1 - the origin

Hey guys! Similar to what many overseas blog are doing, I am going to hold a blogging carnival! This is in lieu with youth.sg's blogging competition, and I hope this particular carnival would pull all the bloggers (including those that are not even in the top 11, of every round!) closer to one another and we will not feel that we are speaking to the AIR (echo: air... air... air...)

For the first round of blogging carnival, our theme will be ORIGIN of our online persona.
I believe that we have a few prominent figure in our blogosphere. To name a few: Mr Otaku , Rainyuki , FrozenMAMA ...

I am sure many of our friends here would wish to here the story of their NAME. if there is no history, create one! make your entry as interesting as possible! To start the ball rolling I will talk about the origin of crazyhamster.

It wasn't me who came up with the name crazyhamster. Crazyhamster is a name thought of by my friend. And for the first time ever, i am releasing it to the public. There was a day, 3 years ago, when we walked past a pet shop. We just returned from a camp. Through the camp, we went through several torture session by our seniors. It made us really agitated and felt strongly against out seniors. On the bus, we were thinking and formulating ways to -in a way- kill our seniors. I agree we are sadistic at that point of time, but you probably cannot blame us because we just went through a totally torturous camp, where we got tortured rather badly by our seniors.

The ways we thought of killing the senior was rather dumb - we were imagining that he will get poisoned when he is going through ns etc. Then as we walked past the pet shop, we started to laugh, simultaneously. I was saying, "hey, if *censored*(my senior) was a rabbit, I will... turn him insideout through the MOUTH!" and we were laughing hysterically at that stupid idea, then, he said,"yea, if he was a hamster, i will pluck out its legs! and it will turn into a crazyhamster!"

And we laughed all the way home. Fatefully, that night, my senior sent me a gmail invite. Having heard about the fantastic space given by gmail ( at that point of time), I was really happy about it, so I left my old account : everlastingchampionvictorgan@hotmail.com, and created the new gmail account.

Guess what, I decided to adopt the name crazyhamster, and ever since then, my id had been crazyhamster. Crazyhamster is me!

As I went online today, my contacts started to ask me: " Oh have you won have you?" and up to 5pm, all I can say was, the result was not out.

At 2.30 I went for a horrifying session with the dentist. He washed the nerve of my teeth, how scary! and He numbed a quarter of my face. like totally numbed. I sat on the chair, closing my eyes. Yes, i am afraid of needles, infection and that sort of. Dun start laughing.

i told my mom earlier on about this competition and she was like "oh u go pray to our ancestor and offer some josssticks, confirm get first" I was laughing at the statement, but I did it nonetheless.

NE-mation 2006/7

A wonderful day or morning if you call it, spent at the NE-mation prize presentation ceremony at SAJC. It was really funny when we "stalked" an acjc girl in order to get to our destination. We were truly unaware of the direction to the school, thus after we alighted from the MRT, we decided to use some help from an unknown girl. You should have seen the expression of that girl when matthew went forwad to thank her, and she realised a crowd of around 8 people were following her.

Anyway, Hwa Chong did not win. It is such a pity! I think our senior really put in A LOT of effort in this particular competition. Of course, their competitors were working really hard too! If there would be such a competition next year, i am not really sure if I will take part, looking at the immense stress.

It is quite a major event you can say, with people from the press, media jostling around to get a shot of the minister. and the host is Ross, yes, Ross from girls out loud. BUt alas, its FIRST or nothing, unfortunately, we got nothing. Do take sometime off and view the clips from this site.

Scouts Job Week 2007

Before your read on, VOTE FOR ME!

For those living in Bungalows, Semi-detached, Terraces. You may noticed a surprising bunch of scouts appearing infront of your door this entire week. Ok mostly, for saturdays. No matter whether you are feeling agitated, fustrated or simply enjoy the look of the scouts when you reject them, they will still come. BECAUSE THIS WEEK IS JOB WEEK!

Being a venture scout myself, I decided to commit a day, no a morning, to doing jobweek, just for the heck of it. For some reason, I skipped jobweek since sec 2, so this is my second time doing jobweek. This led me into thinking of ideas to reject us, some being fictional, some are true!

Top 5 reason to reject scouts (not in order of merit)
1. We have efficient maids here, we do not need another one.
2. Oh I am sorry but I really have nothing for you to do, i have just trimmed the grass, swept the floor, wipe the window, .... (oh by the way its only 9am)
3. I really wanted to let you in, but I am afraid that my dog will attack you. (its a chihuahua)
4. I am sorry but my MAM isnt in. ( And from the back we hear "MARIA! HURRY UP!", with a "yes mam!")
5. Shake your head before we can open our mouth.

OK enough said. Lets relook at the objective jobweek is supposed to give us.

Taking a big one day off from my hectic schedule by focussing on my project work 2007. It will be a stopmotion animation based on a "dustbin story". I did quite a few sketches prior to the solidifiying of the story. It were sketches of my character designs. Finally, I met up with my mentor today and discussed the possibilities of each designs and ideas that I have in mind ( and my notebook.)

My Idea was finally formed (after like 3 months of working on a ccrap idea). I shan't reveal much here, because I am considering buying a domain and set up a blog for this particular project. I wish to share with the netizens as I learn, so it will be a "learning-with-me" type of process, instead of a "I-teach-u" process. It will be about the formalization of ideas, characters, and focus mainly on stopmotion.

What is stopmotion? Stopmotion is a 3d animation. In my opinion, it is the forefathers of the digital 3d animation. In a sense that chicken run was a huge success, it shows that stop motion do have its standing in the industry. Although recently, Aardman animation(the leading company of stopmotion) turned to digital 3D animation for their latest feature, Flushed away, I believe that they will still produce stopmotion films.

What will the blog meant for? It will be used as another outlet for teenagers to share their learning journey if they are truly interested in the arts of animation. Animating can be a hobby for many teenagers, a good one at that.

The Income - A blogvertise solution

After my mom gets hospitalised, I stopped tutoring. I have only earned 110 dollars. My Dad is on MC, while my sister is preparing to start her new school term and therefore quit her job as a sales promoter. Most probably my mom is going to stop babysitting judging by her current situation. She is recovering fast and is out of ICU today.

All along, crazyhamster.blogspot.com had been commercialised with advertisements from adsense. Take a look at my sidebar. However, recently, I had signed up for a new mean to allow me to earn some income from my blog, it is called blogsvertise It works differently from the adsense way. In adsense, i have rely on the readers to click on my advertisements, or sign up for new products for me to earn my dollars. however, in blogsvertise , assignments will have to be assigned to me and I will write a review on it. Of course, I will reject if the content is not appropriate for my audience, readers.

lets hope that this few means will help to make up for the income loss in the recent string of misfortunate events.

I know its my call, when i see the following quote.

Thats just like calling out "Hey crazyhamster! its your time to get out of your hibernation after round two!"

Whats more, they are dangling a product that I can never resist, and the same time, never afford. We must not confuse what we need and what we want. An ipod is certainly what most of the teenagers wants, but at the same time, it is an item that NONE of the teenager's need. So thats precisely why my mother refuse to get me one of the DAP for my last birthday. It was indeed disappointing, but nonetheless, perhaps I could attempt to win one. A method that will not touch a cent that my mom earns! That is what you call win-win!

I must say it is hard to go for this competition the third time, as it will be the third time you are baring your souls to the world wide web. As human nature goes, they demand more and fresher things as the experience adds on. Writing a THIRD entry for this competition is indeed pressing me down a little, but anyhow, I thought of the method I could employ writing this particular entry.

The first entry was crap? It was mainly just an entry for the competition, and thats that. The second entry was more of showing the "sensible" side of me, a view even my friends did not know of. How exactly could I make this post a novel entry that my fellow bloggers will feel the urge to vote for me?

I shall reveal some of my darkest secrets here. No, I am not a gay. I am a creative youth in Singapore!

Across my 4 years of Secondary school, I am in the Arts Elective programme of Hwa Chong Institution, from then on I am sucked into the realms of media art (this particular week's theme!) I had made several animations, however I must say none of them are really presentable. Nonetheless, I shall present to you an animation that I did in the past month, using only 1 night, with another partner. It was a project meant for ACS(i) Life science symposium, It was the top Entry. In another words, this animation earned us 5 trophies, and 600 kinokuniya Vouchers.

Interesting? but certainly not the best that the AEP could produce.

At the same time, i was also in charge of making some nice photo montage meant for mass viewing. I shall show you one of which that is closest to my heart, and perhaps to the other 400 other "pro-edians" in my school. It is the proed song.

I AM IN TOP 11 AGAIN!

The previous round, I did not obey the "suggestion" of putting up enough pictures. But this time round, I felt strongly only when I see the "suggestions". So wouldnt it be an irony if I am going to submit an all-text article again?

I believe strongly in making my readers' happy, thus I advocate this blogging competition to everyone who feels that you can bring this happiness of blogging to more youths in Singapore!

Reason for not posting

Hey people, I am really sorry for not posting for the past 6 DAYS! In case you didn't know, I am not one who apologises when i do not blog when i don't have inspiration. Rather, i apologise when there is valid reason for me not posting at all. And the reason is my mom. I think this year is the year which my family would grow (not in numbers), it is a challenge to all four of us. As mentioned before, my dad's leg was injured , and now, My mom is down with severe pneumonia. The cause of the pneumonia is still unknown till now. In another words, she is still in the intensive care unit and not out of danger yet.

WAIT! before you guys address me as someone who cares more about blogging than his mom, I shall explain in a slightly more detailed account. My mom was hospitalised last sunday, the night that I blogged about the ten post. She was in a really bad shape, and she couldn't really breath. So around 2 am, we called for ambulance and she was brought to NUH. I didnt go because there's school tomorrow.

For the next 5 days, she was warded in the ICU, and remained in critical situation. She was surviving on the respirator through a tube into her lungs. It was really heartwrenching to see her in that state. But it cant be help. I was pestering the doctors to give me an upadte of her situation everytime I visit her. Every afternoon I would rush down to NUH and visit her. I flunked my math test, scoring a 64 percent when others are scoring above 80s. This was the moment I understood, grades aren't everything. I was controlling my tears through out the test, its a no wonder that I flunked it.

However, as the days goes by, I learnt to control my emotion. I know that without my mom's help, my life would be turned upside down. Indeed it was, everyday, without my mom's morning call, I was often rushing to be in time. Without her sandwich, i was often starving in school. Without her perfect ironing, my uniform was often not pressed neatly (because I am noob).

It is this time i realised the importance of kinship and friendship. My mom is getting better now, my friends and teacher had visited her. I really appreciate the concern of my friends and teachers, especially yingmin and olivia. They are really great friends! ;)

No matter how tough the rest of the journey is going to be, I will make it through. Because, i am victor gan

Istana - World scouts day

A group of 7 of year 4 ventures rendered their service at the istana today. According to the invitation card, the president requested for me ( and everyone else who is present). It includes prestigious guests like member of the PAP, Mr Eric Low, an ambassador of a country that I do not know of. I am guessing Indonesia, since his name was, His Excellency Mr Wadarma, or somewhere along the line. It was also our privilege to witness the arrival our dearest PM and SM, not forgetting our president and the first lady in person.

However, some displeasure was experienced when one of the cisco guard thinks that we are less than human, and did not even treat us with basic respect. to make things clear, not all of the cisco guards are like this particular one, no doubt, many are friendly, and helpful, but perhaps this "black sheep" may cause the impression of the guards to be bad. We just need one "bad apple" isn't it? Perhaps, the "service starts from you" campaign should start with all the cisco guards themselves.

This gentleman, who was the president of the scouts council, who arrived without the invitation card (yes, the one in the picture). Somehow, I do not know how, we thought that since he was part of the council list, we will check his attendance with the council list and write him a card, case closed. However, we could not find his name. Thus we called up one of our in-charge to find out what we could do. Dominic talked on the phone, passed it to the president of scouts council, after which passed it to this cisco guard. Lets name the cisco guard - Barney.

So after a long serious talk on the phone in a cubicle, Barney walks out, gave the phone to dominic, and walked away. Imagine this scenario, a guard that used your phone, gave it back to you, and walked away without saying a word, there are people waiting for you elsewhere to check their attendance, what would you do naturally? Put it right back in your pocket, and continue with your work right? That was exactly what dominic did.

Guess what.

Barney looked over and shouted like he never shout before, "LISTEN TO THE PHONE LA! (in chinese)" With his eyes popping out, and his mouth opening twice as big as my mouth could ever open. Seriously, I was quite shocked at the rude gesture. Dominic gave a -.- stare, and solved the problem by writing a card to the president of scouts council. The president (of scouts council) managed to drive into istana successfully.

Barney walks over, and asked us (not nicely) "You all know where his car supposed to park or not?!" Look, we do not have his list, or rather we could not find his name on the list, so how the hell are we supposed to know where the car is supposed to park. I gave an innocent stare and said" No, because we does not have his name."

He hollered back at us, as if we owed him a million dollars, "BU ZHI DAO! ("don't know" in chinese)" If not for our school reputation, I would have attitude him. So what if we are service scouts, so what if you work in istana. What truly infuriates me is his popping eye and big mouth that made it look as if we are under him or something. But sorry, I did not know of any relationship between scouts and cisco guard. After which he went around talking to the other guards, looking at us with a sneer. what the hell. I was controlling myself not to go over and bash his "bashing friendly" face.

In case you are not clear, the guards do hold a list of guests too, we are just making their job easier by taking attendance ourselves, to think we are being reciprocated with such rudeness and unfriendliness that we would not expect from the guards of Istana.

I had came across many blogs in Singapore that commented on the harshness of the education system, which causes stress and fatigue to many of our students. Children, adults (and teenagers) alike, all face stress in this fast paced society. For teenagers, the stress comes from school, homeworks, BGR relationship etc etc.

I am a teenager myself, I fully understand the immense stress faced by our students. It is a competitive society, while our parents strive hard to compete with others for higher income, we are faced with expectations to score high in school and are judged upon the number of "As" we have scored. No doubt, a straight As student will be the most likely to be favoured by teachers and adults. Sometimes, we want to suceed, we want to score, we have a goal, but we could not keep to it. The result? Getting stressed over a test because you didnt study for it.

When we take a step back, look around us, we observe how the happy people around us are able to lead a more comfortable life. When we reflect, it is convenient to blame our stress and unhappiness on the organisation, the teachers, the homeworks. However, we will always miss out on ourselves, it takes two hands to clap, we played a part in creating the stress that is layed upon us.

1. All work no play makes Jane a dull girl, all play no work makes Jane a dumb girl!
Sometimes, we have to look at things with both angle. It is not wrong to mention that academics are not and should not take up 100percent of our time. Who would love to be a nerd with no friends, no social life. Then again, who would want to be a person who only knows how to talk, but has no substance in him? To set things on the right foot, teenagers should be able to balance both work and play as both are equally important. In my article, I am focussing on releasing stress in terms of academics, thus do bear with me as this article is slanted towards building up your academic capabilities and handling stress due to your academic worries.

2. Do your homework beforehand, it helps!
As much as I want to disbelieve this statement, it is totally true. Don't you feel a sense of accomplishment when you finish your work? When you step into your classroom the next day, you will just feel like exclaiming to the class "hey look! I finished my homework!" This builds up your self-confidence, as well as reduces the stress of having to get berated by your teachers. Even if no praise comes in, by doing homework on time, it does help to alleviate the stress during the test period as you would have less things to study for. By this time, my friends reading this blog would be staring hard at me because, myself could not accomplish this "feat". The only reason that can justify not doing homework is the lack of guidance. I am facing the problem of having no one to face to when I encounter difficult sums, or tough questions, thus I am unable to finish some of my homework, forcing me to do them in school. However, I will try my best to finish the questions that I know, which would in turn allow me to ask my friends the question that I am unclear of. At the end of the day, it is your own conscience that you need to answer to.

3. Study gradually, not mug everyday
I am a teenager too, i understand the need to socialise via msn, friendsters etc. However, it only takes a little effort for you to take our your books and revise certain topics, it will greatly reduce the tensions created during the exams period. When it comes to exam, the task of memorising certain formulas will be easier as practice makes perfect. Furthermore, if the concept is clear, the memory work will just flow through.

4. What are YOUR expectations ?
When your parents or teachers set goals and target for you, don't you feel pressured by their high, and sometimes unrealistic expectation, of you? You know yourself best, you know your limitation as well as your strength. Only you can set goals that will truly stretch yourself to the fullest potential. When you are moving towards a goal set by your parents/teachers, you are being pushed, however when you are moving towards a goal set by yourself, you are being attracted by the goal, you are being pulled. You work with reluctance, with sorrow, towards a goal others set for you. You work with passion, with delight, towards a goal that you set. So who should set the goal?!

5. Do not forget to relax!
Relaxation does not mean 7 hours of maplestory, 3 hours of dotA everyday. It can mean taking a short breather from your hectic schedule to do some exercise. It has been clinically proven that exercise will help to reduce stress! It will release a hormones that will make you feel more relaxed. You can also relax by listening to soothing music, engage yourself in a spiritual enrichment programming. Depending on individuals' likes and dislikes, this relaxation activity would greatly help to reduce your stress. However, do your relaxation activities in moderation, or else it may have a reverse effect. (for example, you played soccer for 4 hrs each day, on grounds that is a form of "relaxation", neglected your studies, when test approaches, you are stress all over again!).

I have tons of homework waiting for me to do. Blogging is one of my form of relaxation! Have fun people!

Bloggers out there! ever wonder the purpose of you blogging? Don't tell me blogging is just part of your life, shitting is just part of your life and it has a purpose alright. Imagine all the shit in you for 18 years.
To me, blogging is just like the newspaper, and bloggers are just like journalist. Mind you, uncertified journalist, a newspaper thats free for all, which MAY contain rubbish as well.

Some people blog for MONEY ok, imagine, just imagine the newspaper's priority is to earn money, what will happen? Obviously the front page may read "sex for sale" since sex sells (like hot cakes). But hell no? The main purpose of newspaper is to deliver important and vital messages to the public. Of course, money is a sure bonus. If you blog for money, you will still be part of the "newspaper". Ever heard of the section that is always placed right at the bottom? I think it starts with C.

With millions of blogs in the blogosphere, they can easily be broken down into certain categories similar to the newspaper, particularly Straits Time , Singapore. Some bloggers may choose to report on international news, and give their opinions upon it, some report on daily sights around the local community. We also see blogs on technology, fashion, cars, money, lifestyle...

Blogging could just be the next media, infact it is already the next media! (think tammynyp).

However, there are things that sets apart blogging from newspaper. It is considered an alternative media, thus its creditablity is greatly reduced. I am not saying that bloggers do not have a credible background, but one would always consider the newspaper as a more reliable source than blogs. All this for a very simple reason, newspaper and prints ' aritcles have to go through more than 1 person for it to be published, however for blogs, all it takes is one irresponsible teenager to write an article and press a button, tadah! Published, no cost.

And of course, there isn't a section in nespaper called "personal life", and i think that is the essence of most blogs. Although I seriously detest blogs that follows the likes of "xiaxue" and try to draw attention to their personal life. Seriously, no one gives a damn, about what u did after you woke up, and you peed, and you get horny because you saw a bitch. Whatever. In personal life, I am talking about bloggers able to relate incidents to their own experience, this makes reading news less boring isn't it? No matter which type of blogs, it is always good to add a personal touch to make the blog truly a blog, and not an informative website.

I must say, in the context of singapore, there are tons of blogs that belongs to people who just wish to report on their personal life, they do not wish for you to read them, they do not appreciate your criticism. Fair enough, I will leave them and their personal life alone. When the blogosphere have too many "xiaxue" around, I think I may start to to hear netizens chanting "who let the dogs out..."

And the question "Do we have to write controversial posts to draw attention?" Xiaxue did it, Mrbrown did it. So should I jump on the bandwagon, and do it too? I may be able to grab a tv stint along with it! Use your brain. Obviously, do not write controversial topics for the sake of it being controversial, it will not bring out any substance and people will rate you as "fake". Freedom of speech requires responsibilities along with it too! When you are rationale and have evidence backing you up, go ahead post something that u truly believe in, controversial or not. Many bloggers around the world are famous not because they are critical, but because they are able to convince their readers.

As promised, I will be writing on the topic to persuade you readers that RSS is the next "must-have" thing on your list!

Why RSS? Reason is really simple, because it saves time!

How much time is wasted everyday going to blogs and realise that they ARE NOT updated, how about knowing about their updates even before you type in their url? THAT is the magic of RSS!

There are a lot of RSS readers around that allow you to see in your bookmark bar if the website/blog updated itself. forexample, if you bookmark my RSS feed everytime i update my blog, there will be a (1) beside it to indicate the number of updates I made.

Of course, I do understand that some browsers have yet to support RSS (for i do not know what reason), so here comes the reader, which could really make your lives easier. All you have to do is to bookmark my site in the reader (along with other blogs,) and you are able to view all our updates all via 1 URL. Talk about efficiency!

Okok, personally, I am using google reader, though still in beta. There are a lot of readers around and I recommend those that i prefer on my sidebar. For google reader, you need not register if you have a gmail/google account.

You can add directly if you know the URL of the blog which uses blogger, livejournal, myspace etc etc.

If not, you do a quick search for the url, for example, this time round I chose to find subscribe to tomorrow.sg bulletin... so i searched tomorrow.sg...

and in the end, after you bookmarked the sites you want...
and you can read the entries like how you read EMAIL!

New Year New Template

Hrm... That sounds familar isnt it? I think i said that during New Year 2007, when I changed my banner and some layout (for the worst, according to some). Thus i took advantage of the 4 days long holiday, in the midst of homeworks and some gambling with my relatives, I managed to come out with this WONDERFUL template. ...

So whats new? For one, I added RSS feeds adder to my side bar. LOOK! Its great ok, I will elaborate on RSS and why RSS the next time round, but do subscribe to save time!

You may say that I am emo or whatever, but I feel really great when I am with my family. A few instances I just felt like bursting "I LOVE YOU" to my mom. ahh, but no guts. Talk about the conservative nature of asian families. But i felt really great when I am with my distant cousin etc etc. And I thought I would detest to be with a big crowd of people. I guess there is a special bond between us. *wink*

Then again, I love being with my primary school friends as well. Its great to see the same group of friends grow after 4 years. Yes, its fast. 4 years since my primary school days. I think I will go back as long as Ms/Mrs. Tok stay in Zhenghua.

Other than homeworks, I went to two movies in such a short span of time. Ghost rider and Just follow rules. Both are great movie I guess, but i enjoy the latter more. I like Jack Neo's movie, it could always relate to me. (though probably, this time the things do not happen to me directly.) and i realised... Fann Wong seriously DO NOT LOOK like her age.

Competitions

Took a short break from blogging, admist all the tests and competitions I was busy with.

But I AM BACK!

Firstly, I am really glad and happy that I have an efficient team of 4 scouts that took part in some scouts competition. And surprisingly we won 3rd. 3rd in the nation. Considering the fact that we went to bishan library to sleep during the break, while others are frivorously practicing, and our heats was the one and only time we practiced, getting third is a result totally unexpected.

My mugging season is already over. I am preparing hard for my AEP project which is totally behind schedule. I intend to spend my CNY holidays doing it. Like, its time for me to catch up, yea?

Another unexpected win was from ACS (i) life science symposium. We are the champion! I shan't elaborate, all in all it was UNEXPECTED.

Thats it, i think im losing my blogging ability :(

Gasp! all of a sudden, I am feeling asthmatic. Must be the stress, the immense stress that is crushing down me, it not allowing me to breath properly. BUT HEY who can crush victor? *winks*

Man, I must believe I am undefeatable. Failure, I have tasted enough of it, thanks. I still remember a doctor I went to told me that true successor is a person who is able to climb up again and again after failures, not one with a smooth journey. This was drilled straight right into my head (perhaps, it is because I am sick at that point of time, vulnerable... ). Thats why, all the failures in year 3 (including a term of 3.5 msg) did not manage to knock me out. I am not sure if I am recovering, but one thing for sure, I am climbing back up. It is not that I did not feel sad over my retarded MSG last year, many may said that I am apathatic to even my own results! But no, I chose to recover faster than others, I chose to spend the time thinking of ways to study instead of crying over spilt milk. I had always believed that once a test is handed in, there is pretty much no point in finding out the answers directly, before the teacher mark your script, you are just finding oppurtunity to crush your own morale. Stupid. Dumb.

In my spare time, ( which seriously isnt much), I was surfing around, and I came across this site. Algoco - own the internet (thats their tagline, mind you). Seriously, I would just brush it off as another scam, but since it was so furiously promoted by one of my favourite blogger, I decided to give it a shot. And you! my readers, should give it a shot too!

It works very differently from adsense of google (ie. the advertisement I have at the side of the blog, yes I do earn money when you click them). It is something that allows you to earn money when you are surfing, kind of exciting isn't it? However, their viewbar isn't really ready yet. So now, its the time to refer people and build up your network, at the same time generate revenue when the viewbar is ready.

Argh. Sometimes, it sucks to have a mac. It works so efficiently that it does not makes me realise how many windows I have opened. At least when I work in a windows environment, its lag will remind me about the number of windows I have opened unwittedly.

Today had been a busy busy day. First, I went to tutor the little kid from 8.30 to 10am. Heh, he is quite good at math and my way of teaching seems to work for him, a sense of achievement. But his english sux, period. I promised to get him sweets next week for an effort to complete an exercise by himself. Although he only managed a 50 percent, it was a huge improvement of the 0 percent of the previous "anyhow do" exercise. Next week im getting my pay, in fresh cash. :)

After that, I came home and finished a bit of my homework and continued on my flash animation project. The deadline is tomorrow, so most probably I am dead. Luckily, I have got matthew who will help me out a great deal.

Now, Im getting nauseous and headache from all the animation. I decided to force the last spirit of me to blog. ok short post.

Forced CIP

Isn't the term above a joke? CIP - Stands for community involvement hours. It occupy a rather important stand in the current LEAPS points system. When we have reached 100 CIP hours, we could get 5 LEAPS point. Do not belittle this 5 leaps points, some of my friends have only 4 leaps point currently. I broke the golden 100 mark when I was in year 1. I had always believed that CIP is voluntary at least after 100 hours, thus I had far exceeded the limit, yet I still felt like giving in to the society, thus I may join my friends, who may still require some hours, to do my part for the community. Please do not think that I am feeling that I am a saint, my point is that CIP should be voluntary, and there should not be anything called compulsory CIP, especially for people with more than 100 hours.

Thus it really bothers me when I come across this term compulsory CIP. yes, i do agree that it still do good to the society, when we go over to the organization, we are helping out the beneficeries, but still, shouldn't CIP be done according to your passion? After attaining 100 hours, I had been doing voluntary work on a selective basis, not to say that I am pragmatic, but I prefer to volunteer in sectors as well as service that suits my own character and style of work. Isn't that much more enjoyable for me to do voluntary work, instead of being "forced" into some situation which I had to serve hours like I am prisoner.

Do not get me wrong, I totally understand the rationale of the compulsory CIP, I believe that it is to serve as a stepping stone to stir up interests in students, but is it necessary for year 4 students? Standing at my point of view, if at year 4, we are still being spoonfed with something as menial as CIP, I would certainly take a look at what the 3 years of Secondary Education had all been about.

Most of my friends had already max out the 100 hours, just like me. Some of them stop doing community work ( saying things like, why should I do, when I already have 100 hours), while I see some still volunteering for grassroot organisations on a regular basis. It all boils down to the PCME lessons given to us on a regular basis. If it is indeed successful, do we need to go through such measures just to sustain the students' contribution to the society?

I feel that CIP hours are secondary things, they are a way to measure our effort to contribute to the society. I agree that by forcing students to fulfil cip hours may open their eyes to other facets of life. At the same time, I am totally puzzled why the students could not manage to perform their duties without being told. Is this an indication that we must be spoonfed everything, we must be shown a direction in everything we do, even in how we could contribute to our society.

This is partly the reason why I am totally fazed by the 13slc core structure, it empowers teenagers the mindset that they could make a difference to the society, to the world.

Seriously speaking, wouldn't the students show more interest and enthusiasm if they are serving the society via a project they planned? Wouldn't that show a true spirit of volunteerism.

Forced volunteerism? yea right.

Successful Entrepreneur

I was flipping through the Straits time today and I came across its "Monday's Interview" column in life. Lets forget the reason why I am flipping through life instead of the main/home sections of the paper. The interview tagline was quite catchy, it was an interview with the boss of breadtalk. I am sure everyone in Singapore are clear and utterly in the know with this wonderful exquisitive bread shop that we all love. On the front page it wrote: Don't Give up, says Bread talk's George Quek.

However, i snide at the remark he made that "he's just a teochew boy at heart who yearns for the simple life". At that point of time, I felt that he was talking cock. I mean, it may be easy for a rich man to say "oh how i wish I could just life a simple life... blah blah blah" but seriously, are they able and willing to give all up to lead a simple life? Not when one had already experienced the sweetness of being rich (imagine being chauffered around in a luxury car).

However, I must admit that I admire this guy more and more as i read through his interview. His life really started from a normal teochew boy. He was not smart, he did not go through the route that most people felt was a must in order to be successful in life. It was reported that he did not get good grades and studied in a neighbourhood school. He only had a secondary education, yet, his perseverance and knack for business managed to set him on the same line, if not higher than most graduates.

Seriously, many graduates with buisness degrees, would not be able to hold a candle against this chinese educated O level holder dude, just at the age of 27 he is able to chalk up sales of over $240,000 a month. A significant amount for a 27 year old with an education level that will not works towards his advantage.

Of course, we could not forget all those successful entrepreneurs with a Masters, PhD etc. However, it seems that those succesful people with lower education is more newsworthy. They managed to achieve their success through perserverance, something the education will never be able to teach.

This interview is indeed inspiring, it makes me feel anything is possible in the world, as long as we have the passion and the will to do it.

It was a struggle for my decision to join round 2 of the youth.sg blogging competition. Partly, due to the fact that I got utterly crushed in round 1. I was so lousy that I decided to hide in a corner and never get out. Looking at the winner of the PSP (drools), i consoled myself by telling myself that PSP wasn't that important. I couldnt afford the game anyway.

I am definitely part the youth movement in Singapore. There is something that probably sets me apart from the bulk of Singaporeans. I am disappearing. Or rather, my income group is fast disappearing. Im in the medium-income group (NO IM NOT IN THE LOW, I DONT ADMIT IT!), and news has reported that the income gap in Singaporeans are fast disappearing. like boom! its gone. All dead? Of course not, that only meant that it may move towards the low income and the high income group.

haix, for some reason, I have a premonition that my family is going to move towards the low-income group soon. I mean, as a youth, I should be carefree right? yea... thats if I am in Austrailia, but no! I am in Singapore. And my dad, who works as a driver, recently got his leg crushed by a metal rod. It was a heavy toll for my family, especially for my Mother, she had to babysit another baby to make ends meet. Things aren't that bad though, my sister started work, while waiting to be enlisted into a poly, she dropped out of JC. So, I guess fates has it that, only 2 people can work at the same time in my family :). we are currently taking it easy, not much stress.

I guess it was all fine, but I realised that I shouldnt really depend on my mom especially, if I still wants to induldge in my luxury desires, like movies. My school's culture is to collect 40 dollars from our family every term to pay for our bloody worksheets. It hurts me when I see my mom withdrawing money from the ATM, it makes me feel really uncertain about our future, thus I decided to take up a challenge. I once pledged that I would take up the job of a tutor, as I am impatient with small kids. but i guess, the situation had left me with little choice, I have to pay the 40 dollars with what I earn, I am a youth@sg, I am independent. So here I go, a tutor, at the age of 16, schooling experience of Year 4.

It was a huge relief that I do not have to take the O levels (excpt for higher chinese), the tuition session took me 3 hours each week, with 8 dollars per hour. That makes up to around around 110 dollars every month. This way, i would be able to pay the class fund, as well as to hang out with my friends. Although, I do not contribute much to the household income, this way, I would lessen the burden of my parents.

My dad's leg is recovering, but it will be at least 3 more months before he would be able to go to work again. It is fortunate that we have our uncle as his boss, so he managed to keep his rice bowl. I would think that he would be rendered useless by some other companies, not that my dad is lousy, but thats how pragmatic the working class is. To certain extent, I think my dad is really smart, he is not that highly educated (with education up to primary 6), yet he managed to get a lorry license, a car license, and a taxi license. A thing worth noting is that he took all the tests in english! Amazing isnt it? and he is yearning to get a camera, he loves the technology as much as i do, or rather, the other way round.

I didnt want to join this competition at first, I deemed fit that I will never win. the camera is a hot item, all the youths want it, but i do not want it, my dad wants it. So i decided to give this a shot, so that my mom would not need to withdraw any money from the bank accounts to either buy a lousy camera at a cheap price(which i would see as an eyesore), or get an expensive camera ( which i adore, but felt bad about having to spend the money). So heres the solution, I could win this canon ixus camera, its free and good, how cool can it be. I am sure all youth@sg would do what I did, just for his injured dad. :)

Whoops! Everybody! After procrastinating, and doing some simple coding over the course of a week, I finally decided to move my blogs to the new blogger, which claimed to be totally out of beta. Lets see if there will be screw ups, in the mean time, I have re-arranged some of the useful advertisements on my blog, as well as enabled comments. I will be including Labels shortly. See you!

Unplanned

Ever had anything that went totally unplanned? Like, you plan to do "A" and "B" crops up, tadah, u ended up doing "C". Rather confusing isn't it? Ok, it is.

Lets say, a normal situation for a teenager: "you planned to finish your homework tonight, but you caught a rather interesting advertisement and stayed glued to the tv to watch the next programme, and the next thing you know, you are on your XBOX 360 slashing animals. "

Great. There goes the entire evening doing useless stuff, and you will be too tired to finish any of your assignments dealt by your evil teachers. How I wish human comes with a stronger mind. Maybe the next-generation IVF(test tube babies) could help with that, the bonus added to attract costumer.

I could almost imagine IVF ads on the main page of LIFE now "Genders not enough? A stronger mind had been added if you choose our artificial fertilisation plan -- withouth charges. *terms and conditions apply*" ok. I am digressing.

Anyway, I was planning for a homework night on this good ol saturday and spent the entire sunday tutoring a child (for 1.5 hrs only la!) and doing my AEP and Science project. Thats a hell lot of drawings to settle :) . What happened? At the perfect hour of 3 am, I woke up, realising I missed my dinner. It took me a while to realise that I overslept completely. I mean like 12 hours of sleep. Perhaps I was too tired over the weekdays. Year 4 life isn't as easy and satisfying as Year 3 life. And now, I am blogging with 0 homework done. There is still 5 more hours before I go to the kids house to tutor him. Before that, I shall finish my homework. or sleep. (since I did most of my homework in school).

Things do go unplanned, studying for a test may easily turn into a lord of the rings marathon session when we have too much time on hand. Don't you agree that we will only work real hard if the tests are just the next day (or maybe the next hour)? The urgency of the matter seems to be able to trigger the our mind, and allow us to work hard. But at the end of the day, it will not really yield good results. Maybe thats why I 've always liked (still unable to abide), the scouts motto: Be Prepared.

Imagine any situation that you are always prepared, you are always expecting the unexpected. We will have an edge over the others just by being prepared. And how do we be prepared? It takes a hell lot of discipline to sit down and tell yourself rationally that the homework is totally more important than your girlfriend on the phone. At the time of relaxation, we tend to put fun stuff at the top of our "priority list" that exist subconsciously in our mind. The key here is to switch the positions of your priorities in your mind, convincing yourself.

Take for example, your test will be on the next week. Normally, you will cram for it the day before, or two days before. If you are smart, you will do well (and forget everything after that), if you are not that smart, you will flunk your test and wished you started earlier. The same cycle will go on even in you are in the working class, dishing out rushed out assignments that will never drive you forwad. We, teenagers, need to set the foot right. Right from the day of today, we must always keep in mind that "tomorrow" never comes, the mindset that "i will start from tomorrow" will work most of the time is a fallacy. What will actually works is " I will start today", it forces you into the swing of moment, to enter a cycle of efficiency. Perhaps, we should take this weekend to sit down and think through the list of things we have to complete by a certain deadline, arrange them into a list in order of priority. We must have a clear and rational mind when doing this. For example, we should consider if the project, which is dued 6 months later , needs to be started early as it stands 50 percent of our assessment. Thus the priority list should not just be according to date.

I have yet to succeed. Show me that you can. :)

I am @youth.sg, because I have no courage to enter the youthpark in orchad. Instead of hanging out like my parents did in the past, i preferred socialising over the vast internet. Blogging is my flyer, and friendster is my namecard, just like thousands of youth in Singapore. Age seems to catch up on me, when my eyes get fatigue by playing Maplesea, a game played by millions. I no longer had to go overseas to see xiaxue, neither do i have to wake up early to catch a moment of "dawn".

Library? what an obscure word, I have only heard of wikipedia over here. Newspaper? Which article had been tomorrow-ed?

I simply love being a Youth @ Singapore, it just meant studying 10 subjects, of which 8 you would probably hate. And of course, I have blogs in blogger, livejournal, wordpress, the more the better! its free anyway...

The latest shopping centre Vivocity cant be compared to the wide array of blogshops set up by singaporeans! (and allow an 8 year old to earn extra allowance.

I apologise for all the grammatical, spelling mistakes I have met. It is to my greatest regret that english had been my weak subject since I was a P1. I live in an average chinese speaking family. Although my mom is a Secondary 4 graduate, she studied in a chinese school since young. Same goes for my dad, who could not even utter a sentence of english. ( Other than yes and no.)

So how the hell did I get into Hwa Chong then? I am not really sure about that myself either.

I remember meeting a wonderful tuition teacher in primary 4, which solely guided me along for english. It soon allow my english to maintain at band 1, or even A*. After she decided to quit due to her busy schedule, I never had anymore tuition. Truthfully, I turned down at least 3 tuition teacher just after 1 session. I guess i was too proud for my own good. I thought I was infallible. At least it proves to be right till primary 6 where I scored an A* in english miraculously.

Dave, you must be mocking at Singapores' Education System, or even doubt the quality of our PSLE standard. (If you happen to be a foreigner.)

I declare myself as a messy, careless person. Grammer mistakes are often made when thoughts in my mind ran through too fast. It went so fast that I may be unable to catch it and write it down in perfect english. I do understand they exist, probably a huge chunk of them in this entry, but I just want to say that I am trying my best over here.

You may take learning english for granted, and speak as fluently as any native speaker.(for god knows, you are one native speaker). Some people, like me, do have difficulty grasping the language. Think about it, its just like math and science, some people may do well, while others flunked totally. It doesnt mean that they don't try.

Bilingual bilingual, the whole education system had been focussing on that for the past decade. I may know how to speak plain english, alas with grammar mistakes, and chinese, but by no means will I be bilingual. Its my dream, and i think, it will still stay as a dream. My chinese is fantastic, but my english like shit. I have seen friends with fantastic flowery english, but chinese thats equivalent of a 5 years old (of me).

I am comepletely fine with you posting hurting (or rather) comments on my blog, but this entry is dedicated to you, dave. Although I do not know if you will come back to this blog, but I am sorry if I had disgraced Hwa Chong's repuation. At least I tried. :) and I do know, thats all that really matters.

Living in the world of 2007.

Celebrate the new year! It seems that the whole world is celebrating (except for thailand, unfortunately). I am cooped up in my little warm house to.... do my NYAA. Well, I should have seen this coming, i mean, i could have done the diary log eons ago, but oh well. PROCRASTINATION. Whats more, I cannot really continue as I feel like vommiting (for some weird reason). Maybe I had too much eggs these two days, (7 in total, minus the yolk). blech.

In the world 2007, I will be a year 4 student in Hwa Chong Institution, and whatsmore, I will be a part-time tutor. Guess I have got to reject many commitments in the future, I need to earn some money to pay for my high upkeep. My dad's leg is injured, real bad, so he cant work, leaving my mom working. If i want to buy stuff for my own enjoyment, it doesnt justify for me to ask money from my poor mom. I guess I have to work for those Items myself :(. it isnt that bad seriously, its just 3 hrs 1 week, and its a Primary 1 student, and I get 110$ a month. ( not bad, not bad at all! :) ) I wouldnt mind some donations from you guys as well :), but it doesnt justify seriously, save your money. be a millionaire. :)

Since you have come to this page, I guess you are curious with this online persona - crazyhamster. Well personally, i am thinking twice before I can fully commit myself to writing this page divulging parts of my personal life. er-hrm.

I am... Young. You can acknowledge me with the group of impetuous teen-angst teenagers. Well, I was. the key word here is "was" because, I am no longer so (except for the teenager part). For me, I would rather be honest with my readers, the good and bad sides will be shown, and not focussing only on the mood swings and stress that every other teenagers in Singapore face. I totally dislike those blogs that sought for attentions given to whores and bitches who whore the likes of Xiaxue. No offence, I think she writes well but those that write in the style of hers, imho are totally not original. Thus, my title was crazyhamster- 100%original, but i changed it to crazyhamster, read again. So many interesting articles around! Some even featured in tomorrow.sg leh!

I have yet to totally organised my page, so the task of finding those articles may be a tad bit tough, but not to worry! bookmark me for more information.

New Years Eve!

Lets welcome year 2007 with the most positive attitude ever.

While others party their hearts out, students of primary and secondary (and JC) prepares for the new year. For the civilians that are born in 1991, it will be a hard year, with O levels pending for them. It is also time for people like me, who got nothing better to do, to think of 5 resolution that i (hopefully) will uphold them,

RESOLUTION 2007

1. Do all homework on time
2. Successfully finish my AEP project
3. Do not procrastinate
4. Tidy up My room
5. Keep tidy subject files.

Wow, they are all related somewhat to my academic. What to do? I am a student in Singapore what.
